Ok, let’s talk about Botox!
Start early. You don’t want to CURE your wrinkles. You want to PREVENT that sh$#!
Once those wrinkles set in, there is permanent skin damage being created inside the crease. If you leave it be for too long, even botox wouldn’t be able to remove that crease. So yes, Botox is preventative!
And yes…the more you get it, the less you will need it! You will eventually be able to go longer in between treatments (the muscle will atrophy or “waste” so you won’t be able to make those harsh lines with your bitch face anymore). 🙂
And you are already using retinA to prevent wrinkles, right? And sunscreen of course.

How long does it last?
3-6 months. However if you have been using Botox a while, then you will likely be able to go longer.
You want to avoid getting it more frequently than every 3 months.
How long after treatment until it takes affect?
2-10 days. So wait a full 14 days before you go back and ask for touchups. Also be sure to get your Botox 2 weeks prior to any event!
How much Botox will I need?
Depends on the area! And amount of wrinkles. And your anatomy. And clinician’s preference. However here are some averages.
Between the eyebrows or the “number 11’s”
Roughly 20 units
Forehead
4-16 units
NOTE: You can’t do the forehead without doing the “number 11’s”.
Or else your eyebrows will be droopy and you will just
look tired. (Have to counteract the muscles.)
Crow’s feet or “beside your eyes”
4-20 units
Prior to Botox Treatment
- Avoid alcohol.
- Avoid NSAIDs or any blood thinners 2 weeks prior to Botox.
Instructions after getting Botox
You don’t want the medicine to migrate into other muscles.
- Avoid manipulation for 3-4 hours afterwards. DON’T TOUCH IT!
- No facials, microdermabrasions, etc for a few days.
- Avoid lying down for 4 hours.
- Avoid exercise, yoga, or strenuous activity.
- Avoid putting your face in a donut (such as getting a massage or acupuncture).
- Avoid alcohol, NSAIDs, or blood thinners.
Contraindications to getting Botox
- Allergy to albumin (Xeomin would be a safe choice).
- Neurological disorders: ALS, myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton
- Prior facial cosmetic surgery
- Flu or cold symptoms
- Infection or dermatitis symptoms in the area of treatment
- Preexisting brow or eyelid ptosis (droopy brow or eyelid)
- Event coming up in the next 2 weeks
What to expect afterwards
You may get some bruising afterwards.
You might also have a little headache (you did just have a needle jammed into your forehead over and over).
There have been reports of flu-like symptoms, but not common.
You potentially might have a watery eye afterwards.
But most importantly, expect to NOT HAVE WRINKLES and to look younger!
