9 Staple Hair Products that Give Volume That Lasts
I am the hair teasing queen (if you haven’t already figured that out). Give me VOLUME! However you can tease all day long, but unless you use products in your hair and dry it correctly, it’s just going fall and stay flat.
These are the 9 products I consistently HAVE to have at all times (in order of use).
1. Clarifying shampoo. If you have product buildup on your hair, it’s going to be heavy and limp. You can tease and tease and spray and spray, and get nothing. Limp. Flat. Hair. I try to clarify at least once or twice a month (not too often because they are drying). I save clarifying days for when I’m (actually) getting dressed up…..those days are the BEST hair days!
2. Protein treatment. Protein is the structure of the hair. The backbone. Without protein it’s just a limp noodle. I try to do a protein treatment about once a week (also great hair days). See separate post on protein treatments.
3. Mousse! On my roots. I wouldn’t even bother blow drying my hair if I didn’t have mousse. YOU CAN’T TEASE YOUR HAIR WITHOUT MOUSSE! It wouldn’t hold! Nothing would hold. It would just keep falling…..fall out of your ponytail…..into your face….I can’t even imagine not using mousse…. I would rather put it in a wet bun. #girlprobs
4. If I REALLY want my hair to look good, I give my roots a few sprays of a volume boost/ root boost spray.
5. Sea salt spray. A few sprays at the top of my hair and a few all over and…..a little added texture! Just enough to make my hair hold.
6. Round brush dryer. My whole life I’ve been using a round brush and hair dryer, but then I discovered this! Remember, you always want to blowup your hair in the upward position and avoid drying it downward and flat. This dryer makes my life easier. It drys the roots in the perfect position. I can curl the ends of my hair under with it. And it looks great without using a straightener. (This is also a must have for dirty hair! Dry shampoo and then re-bump (“bump-its”…remember those?) the back of my hair and it looks like freshly-washed hair!!
7. Teasing comb. Duh. This one has 3 layers prongs (or 3 rows) instead of just 1. THREE TIMES THE TEASE. Whaaa?! I turn the house upside down if I can’t find this comb.
8. Velcro rollers. The amount of activities I’ve done in my life with velcro rollers in my hair. Right after I dry it, I take the back part of my hair (that I want “bumped”), brush it straight up, hold it and tease downward (leave it teased for now), spray under the roots where you just teased with hairspray, and then put a velcro roller in. I usually put 2 of them in the back of my hair and then leave it…… I finish my makeup, get dressed, bath a kid or two or three…… and then…..I’ll curl all of my hair with my velcro rollers still in. Velcro rollers come out LAST. Brush the tease out a little and make it look normal (hello SERIOUS volume) and then curl the rest. You have permanently “set” the volume in. It ain’t goin’ nowhere. You’re welcome.
9. If I wash and fix my hair and it still sucks, I’ll add some dry shampoo. Or its too soft. Or limp. This gives me something to work with. (And obviously I use it every day that I don’t wash it. So basically everyday.)
