Nizoral: The Wonder Drug For Skin & Scalp

The many wonders of Ketoconazole and why everyone should keep this on hand…..

Oily scalp… redness on your face… cystic acne… diaper rashes… baby acne….? Nizoral got your back.

The most under-advertised OTC medication in my opinion.

Inexpensive. Over the counter.

Safe for all ages….including babies. And pregnancy.

Nizoral is 1% Ketoconazole in a shampoo form and is also safe for use on the face and body.

Skin and Scalp Benefits

Benefit #1: Treats pretty much every fungus.

Tinea

Fungus responsible for the rashes that cause:

Ringworm
Jock itch (groin region)
Athlete’s foot
Tinea versicolor

Candida yeast

Fungus responsible for the rashes that such as:

Diaper rashes
Rashes in skin folds
Vaginal yeast infections

Malassezia

This little b*%&*. Lives on everyone’s skin but can decide to become problematic on occasion and have “flares”. Responsible for:

Fungal acne ( or pityrosporum folliculitis). More commonly known as ugly cystic bumps. This is from yeast growing in the hair follicles.

Can be seen on face (commonly on forehead and chin), chest, back, extremities. People on steroids get this (“steroid acne”).

Dandruff (or seborrhoeic dermatitis). Or scalp psoriasis. Itchy, flakey ones.

Did you realize dandruff is associated with a fungus? Shoutout too Malassezia.

Cradle Cap

Pale patches of skin. Or brown coppery patches of skin. (Pityriasis versicolor)

Infant acne. #malassezia

Rashes around the mouth on kids (such as angular cheilitis).

Roseacea.

Some facial dermatitis is caused by Malassezia.

Benefit #2: Decreases inflammation.

If yeast invades your face, this will cause your body to say WTF…..resulting in inflammation and redness.

Using Ketoconazole shampoo will treat the culprit responsible (yeast, Tinea, etc) and also decrease the associated inflammation and redness.

Same with your scalp. It will calm down the irritation which will overall improve the itchiness and hair loss associated.

Benefit #3: Helps with hair loss.

Not only does it decrease inflammation (which decreases hair loss as a result)…..
but it also inhibits the hormone (dihydrotesterosterone) responsible for male and female hair loss.
Annnnddd…..it helps with hair shedding (telogen effluvium is hair shedding associated with stress). Nizoral shampoo is shown to decrease the amount of shedding AND it helps with thickening of hair.

Nizoral won’t CURE the reason for your hair loss, but will most certainly help with recovery.

Excellent results if you are using Nizoral with Rogaine (yes…women included).

Benefit #4: Decreases oil production.

If you have an oily scalp and have to constantly wash your hair…….NIZORAL!

Decreases sebum production.

Also works on the face.

How to use:

Apply the Nizoral shampoo to scalp, face, or target area and leave on for a few minutes. Then rinse. Use 2-3 times a week.

For more chronic issues that have “flares” (such as dandruff or if you are prone to fungal acne), may want to continue to use a few times a month prophylactically.

Can be drying as a shampoo. Limit use to 2-3 times a week, use on the scalp only (spare the end of your hair), follow with your regular shampoo, and then condition well.

I have seen great results with redness AND acne using this occasionally as a face wash. I also occasionally use as a shampoo.

I use this often on my kids. Kids are so rash-y. And my baby still has some cradle cap and it does the trick!
