When my parents keep my kids…
I leave detailed instructions (to which they are not listening to a word I’m saying). My mom is literally interrupting me saying “go! Go have fun!” So they have no idea what any of their routines consist of or what they eat…
And they are fine.
My parents kept my oldest when she only a few months old. I went by the textbook when it came to introducing food. When I picked her up I heard my dad say “she loves blackened fish, French fries, and hush puppies.” …… I choked a little. But guess what…she was fine.
Sugar. Please no sweets. Or at least minimal.
This pictures shows how that went down. And now all they want is chocolate milk.
I am on my 3rd baby. I’ve done this whole sleep thing THREE times now. Not to mention I’m a double boarded pediatric nurse practitioner. But not when I’m at my mom’s house…
She saw how I was up all night (all. flippin. night. every. two. hours) nursing that baby. The next night she snatched the baby up at bedtime and said “we are putting some rice cereal in that baby’s bottle.” ……once again…choked. All I could think to say was “but we don’t have the right nipple for that” and as I’m saying that my dad already has his pocket knife out cutting it.
And she slept all night. And so did i. Until 9:30am actually. First time in 8 months.
Clearly my sweet Emery Kate was not getting her belly full off of my milk supply and just needed a damn bottle. Why do we put so much pressure on ourselves? It’s ok to give a bottle (the rice cereal is still debatable). It’s ok to feed them some fish even though you haven’t been able to introduce all of the baby foods in a ‘every 2 week’ pattern.
I’m pretty sure our grandparents gave us liquor when we were coughing and we all turned out just fine.
So let’s stop stressing, give those babies a damn bottle, and get some sleep!
