If it were appropriate to walk around everyday in stage makeup, I totally would. I LOVE love love makeup.
However it’s a total b*&ch taking it off.
Old Makeup Remover
That is, until I discovered these oil-based cleansers (that I used to use religiously) that literally melt your makeup off. You apply it to your face dry, add some water to emulsify, and then splash with water to rinse it off. There is no scrubbing. No picking off your mascara with your fingers. No washcloths with black mascara stains all over them. It just comes off. (See Skin Care Guide)
However these are expensive. And they don’t last very long. (And I don’t know about you, but the Banilla Co makes me temporarily blind for like 30 minutes after I use it.) Recently I substituted with coconut oil to save money, but I usually ended up reverting back to picking my mascara off with my nails and washing several times to get it all off.
New Makeup Remover
Anyways, I walked into the store the other day (for something unrelated) and the very first thing I saw was the old school Ponds cleansers sitting on the shelf and decided what the hell…. and got 2 different tubs.
BEST. PURCHASE. EVER.
Both of these. Best makeup removers I’ve ever used. There’s a reason our grandmothers used this old lady fragranced stuff (the cold cream is fragranced; the cleansing balm is not). How funny that they were “double cleansing” all along and we were too stubborn wasting our money on makeup wipes and astringent acne wash (to clear up our acne from our poor job of removing our makeup) to buy the tried-and-true stuff that has been around for years.
These take my makeup right off. MELTS it! And my skin feels super hydrated afterwards. I follow with a water based cleanser, apply my moisturizer (onto a wet face), and I’m done! I spend way less time fighting to get my makeup off. (And I’m not blind afterwards.)
These are my staples.
I highly recommend you try the Ponds as a makeup remover! And it’s half the price. Just remember to always follow oil-based cleansers with a water-based cleanser.
We’ve brought back the mom-jeans….now we’re bringing back the Ponds!
