Some mascara is worth the splurge. However most of it ends up having a drugstore equivalent. This my friends is called a DUPE.
4 Top Mascara Dupes
High end: Too Faced BETTER THAN SEX mascara ($23)
Dupe: L’oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise ($9) used with the voluminous primer
Same color tubes. Same bristle shape. Pretty damn close to the same. I’m not a huge fan of this Too Faced one, however I freakin LOVE this L’oreal mascara!
I am a mascara snob, but currently this L’oreal mascara is my go-to. Waterproof mascaras are better at holding curl than non-waterproof, so I use the waterproof version. I get TONS of volume AND curl with this. It is my fav!
All of the beauty boards that I (guiltily) obsessively read said this particular mascara works better with the primer. I personally think mascara primers are garbage. I just don’t see the point. HOWEVER…..I agree that this particular mascara is works much better with the primer and gives much more volume and length…..and now I can’t live without this primer!! I use it with every mascara now.
This is literally the only mascara that I ever use with primer.
I use one coat of primer. Let it dry. Then 1-2 coats of the mascara. And I’m done.
High end: Benefit Roller Lash ($25)
Dupe: Essence Lash Princess Sculpted ($4) and Maybelline Lash Sensational (waterproof) ($7)
Oh how I love this Benefit Roller Lash. It is known for it’s curling power. Not so much volume. The downfall is that you have to follow it with a voluminizing mascara. But oh I love using this as the first coat.
Essence is an unsung makeup brand. SUPER cheap and great quality. Their Lash Princess mascara is the exact same (in my opinion) as the Roller Lash. Same exact wand. Same result. And you save 20 bucks!
The Lash Sensational has the curved curling wand similar to the Roller Lash, however the bristles are more full to give volume. I don’t have to follow this with any other mascara because it gives both the curl and volume! (I use the waterproof to hold the curl.)
High End: Benefit Bad Gal Bang ($25)
Dupe: Essence I Love Extreme Crazy Volume($5)
Bad Gal Bang grew on me. I was told (by the Ulta lady) to use Roller Lash as my first coat, and then take Bad Gal Bang and go side-to-side at the base of your lashes a few times before swiping up. This gives you tons of volume! Oh how I love my lashes with this combo……for the grande total of $50….
Then I found a dupe.
Essence I Love Extreme….it gives you that same volume. It has the same (weird-ish) bristles that work best going side-to-side first. And it’s $5 vs $25…#win.
High End: IT Cosmetics’s Superhero ($24)
Dupe: Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect ($5)
My top high end mascara is iT Cosmetic’s Superhero. It gives fullness to my bare, (somewhat) blonde lashes and LENGTH. I received this in my BOXYCHARM box one month and have kept it restocked since.
Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect is the closest I have found to Superhero. The bristles are both cone shaped and it is pretty similar. However it has not quite replaced the Superhero for me.
With this one I guess I will continue to splurge.
If you have not tried the BOXYCHARM boxes, they are the best. You get 5 full-sized items every month for 20 bucks (usually like $250 worth of makeup).
